Q&A with Jennifer W., Owner of Valkyrie Fitness, LLC
What made you choose the name Valkyrie Fitness, LLC?
A Valkyrie is a female warrior. “Chooser of the slain”. While I do have male clients, a majority of my clients are female and my bootcamps are strictly women. Every woman can be a warrior and I believe I hold them to that standard. I help them see their true potential & just how strong they are through fitness.
What made you decide to become a Certified Personal Trainer and how long have you been doing it?
I have been into fitness for myself for 20 years. I started to help people with weight loss about 8 years ago. At the time I worked full-time as a Behavior Specialist, working with kids on the spectrum. I decided I needed a career change & I was passionate about helping others with their health goals. So I got certified through NASM & started my own business.
What services do you provide?
I Personal Train clients one-on-one or with a partner. I also run bootcamps twice a week. I help clients with their nutrition and write workout programs for anyone who is able to follow it on their own. I just recently started to offer small group training and online coaching. If you look on my website I have programs ready for purchase.
What’s the most important thing you want people to know about health and fitness?
It takes patience & determination. Eating right and moving our bodies should be something that we all naturally do. If you focus on that, the weight-loss will follow. Stop focusing on the numbers and just start working out and eating right. It’s super basic and at times boring, but that’s what is going to work for the long haul. It’s a lifestyle. Not a quick fix.
What advice would you give to someone who is intimidated at the thought of going to a gym or a trainer?
For the gym, the first step is walking inside. Even if you go to the locker room or the treadmill and leave. Put on a hat and headphones. You might think everyone is watching you, but truly no one is worrying about you. For a trainer, meet them first to make sure they are a good fit. Do they practice what they preach and are they appropriately certified. The right trainer is going to meet you where you are at, but still push you.
