On the property there are several buildings that each have something different to offer. You’ll find special exhibitions, workshops, film screenings in the theater, and you can visit the café and gift shop inside the museum. It’s even possible to hold a special event or get married on the property. All of this is in addition to touring the mansion and walking the gorgeous gardens, so have your camera ready.
We visited in the fall, which didn’t disappoint. The trees were beautiful autumn colors and there were leaves climbing some of the walls. There were still some flowers in the gardens, but there are more blooms during the spring and summer. Still, it was nice to see the greenery, changing leaves, and what flowers were left before winter hit. There are grape arbors with benches and a few other areas you can sit to take it all in.
You enter the mansion and notice the impressive height of the ceilings right away. The room is full of greenery and is open to other areas of the house. There are details around every corner, including the ceilings, walls, and on the décor itself. Some of the furniture pieces are original, some are reproductions, but all are beautiful. The staircase is like that in a fairytale, and separates into two once you get to the first landing. You’ll see fireplaces, a piano, and chandeliers that you certainly won’t find in the average home. This was a great mansion to tour, and we plan to go back to enjoy the other activities offered on the property.
